Is Symbian really as bad as people say it is?
Symbian the mobile phone operating system has took a lot of stick over the past few years, but this was unnecessary and simply unneeded.
Nowadays if you mention Symbian you get a wave of abuse and insult’s now I would like to know is it really that bad now?
I am a Symbian user myself but I won’t be biased for this article as Symbian has its highs and its lows as every OS out there.
The user interface of Symbian has took a lot of abuse recently and rightly so it was terrible the battery and signal indicators where real old even Sony managed better, but with the introduction of Belle it seemed a new light was shining on the dreary developer unfriendly user interface but still abuse was given remarks like it is a rip off of android now this simply is not true it is a start to a copy of Nokia’s Meego Harmattan OS and is improving with the release of Feature pack one and the leaked images of Feature pack two, now it does have its downsides i have to admit like the battery indicator is so dam small it’s hard to see it and the pull down status bar is barely used for notifications which is its purpose and there is no button to clear notifications which I find pretty annoying to be honest. We won’t see the full potential of the Symbian user interface till at least Feature pack two.
Now enough on the user interface let’s go to the speed and smoothness a mixed message is sent with this with many saying its smooth any many saying its laggy, I say it’s both, at times it lags as all OS do including IOS once in a while.
A big one for Smartphone users is apps and well what to say Symbian lags behind here a lot, the two things that have possibly saved the app development for Symbian is Belle and Qt, Qt makes it a lot easier for developers to make their apps but even with all this Symbian is way behind the likes of Android and IOS.
